Overview
Overview
The A Level Physics – 9702 examination follows a structured and comprehensive paper pattern designed to assess students’ knowledge, understanding, and problem-solving skills in the subject. The pattern consists of three papers: Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 4 (Practical Test).
Paper 1 is a multiple-choice question paper that tests students’ theoretical knowledge. It consists of 40 multiple-choice questions, with a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes. This paper assesses the breadth of students’ understanding of various physics topics, including mechanics, thermal physics, waves, electricity, magnetism, and quantum physics. It requires students to apply their conceptual understanding to solve problems and select the most appropriate answers.
Paper 2 is a written paper that assesses students’ knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts, as well as their ability to solve complex problems. It consists of structured questions and is divided into two sections. Section A includes short-answer and data analysis questions, while Section B contains longer, more in-depth questions. The paper covers topics such as oscillations, circular motion, gravitation, electromagnetic induction, quantum physics, and nuclear physics.
Paper 4, the Practical Test, evaluates students’ experimental and investigative skills. It consists of two parts: Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation (PAE) and Practical Techniques (PT). In the PAE section, students are given experimental scenarios and are required to plan and design investigations, analyze data, and evaluate their results. The PT section assesses students’ practical skills through a series of experiments conducted during the examination.
Overall, the A Level Physics- 9702 paper pattern aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of students’ knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in physics. It covers a wide range of topics and challenges students to think critically, apply their knowledge to solve problems, and demonstrate their experimental competence. Familiarizing oneself with the paper pattern and practicing past papers can greatly enhance students’ preparation and confidence for the examination.
